Historic Blockhouses of the Magaliesberg | Majakaneng Hiking Trails

Along the 10km Majakaneng Hiking Trail in the Magaliesberg Mountains, hikers can discover historic stone and concrete blockhouses built during the Anglo-Boer War (1899–1902). These blockhouses formed part of a strategic military network used by the British to control movement through the Magaliesberg region, including Majakaneng.
Each blockhouse took about one month to build and cost roughly £1,000 at the time, which is equivalent to around R1 million today. Constructed for strength and durability, many of these structures still stand as powerful reminders of the conflict that took place right here in the mountains.
Hiking at Majakaneng offers more than scenic views, it’s a walk through living history in the heart of the Magaliesberg Biosphere.
